He certainly has the potential and Allaire is a miracle worker -like everything else time will tell.

"Miracle worker" is right. Anyone remember seeing Giugere as a rook in Hartford?
If he was "lost" in Calgary before being reinvented by Allaire in Anaheim, he was even worse off as a raw kid in Hartford. Just brutal prior to Allaire's tutelage.
To his credit, JS has worked very hard to be successful. He's credited Allaire with "resurrecting" his game *several* times...

What about either Manny going to Dallas to split time with Turco?

I agree with on this one. With his tuturing Gustafsson might grow to become an NHL-starter. But I think he have to work for it.
Hate to see becoming another Blaine Lacher or a Jim Carey..

What about Tobias Stephan? Hasn't the Stars got any plans on resigning him?

Re: JULY 1st FREE AGENT SIGNINGS

I think the Stars want to re-sign Stephan, but they feel a real need to get Turco 20-25 games of rest, but new GM Nieuwendyk and new coach Crawford are not sold (yet) on using Stephan that frequently in the NHL. Last year's ratio of games was OK as far as a workload for Stephan, but they felt Turco played too often and was burned out by the end of the season. A "Mannies" (or another veteran)solution would be 1-2 years, while Stephan gets up to speed. Daryl Reaugh has a good blog on the Stars' site: http://blog.dallasstars.com/

Re: JULY 1st FREE AGENT SIGNINGS

Garth Snow has got to be easily the worst GM. Why waste money on a third goalie like that? Why not try and sign some offense and try to put the puck in the net. This is a move a contending team would make to add depth to a goalie......not a rebuilding team, if Roloson gets hurt and Depietro does'nt play, you go to your guys in the minors......thats what you draft players, thats why you have a minor system to develope your players.....if you let guys rot in the minors and you have incompetent scouting (which the Islanders do) who keep on saying "I dont think he's ready yet", you'll never know. You have to give your minor league players a chance to prove themselves, the goalie they had last year could easily fill this role as a 3rd goalie.......

you do not make these moves as a rebuilding team, for a team with a tight budget...its mind boggling

I actually think he's convinced Tavares is going to bring them to the Playoffs this year, he'll be great, but not by himself.

Re: JULY 1st FREE AGENT SIGNINGS

I agree, the Biron signing doesnt make much sense.

why would the Isles need to carry 3 goalies?

unless maybe DiPietro is going to be dealt? but what team would take on his ridiculous contract??

Isles need help on W,someone to play with Tavares or add depth on the 2nd line.

If I was Biron id be pissed, because he is now the 3rd string and could very well end up playing in the AHL.

then again maybe Dipietro's knee injury is much worse than expected...retirement a possibility?

Re: JULY 1st FREE AGENT SIGNINGS

The buzz on Long Island is that DiPietro's progress back from his knee injury is indeed much slower than expected. It looks like we'll see a Roloson/Biron tandem until DiPi returns, and Snow will hope to move Biron at the deadline. Which actually makes little sense, since Biron is only signed for a year, and teams weren't exactly beating down his door as a free agent. I keep hearing "Garth Snow will be a better GM than you'd think." Question is, *when*?!

Good blog report on this, from a former Islanders media VP: http://www.islanderspointblank.com/2009/07/dp-2/
