Respect to Mr Hanks on D Day
Tom was at the Normandy 65th D Day ceremony today. His movie, Saving Private Ryan, did a lot to introduce younger generations as to what debt of gratitude they owe those guys. Heroes all.
Also, people who were there at Swordfish, Omaha, etc, have said the opening 20 minutes of SPR are so realistic it portrayed very well what it was like.
So, I also salute Tom for being there. Great guy.
I shall raise a pint of strong beer to those who died tonight.
RIP Lest We Forget
Amen
--- Please Carol, let him come out...

Re: Respect to Mr Hanks on D Day
That must be why they showed Saving Private Ryan on TCM last night, entirely uncut, and without commercials. I missed the begining but watched from the point where he is given his assignment to go find private Ryan. I would give it 9/10. I wont go 10/10 because Toms character gets killed in the end. I didn't like that.

Re: Respect to Mr Hanks on D Day
Yeah, kudos to Tom and of course all the people behind the movie (writers, Spielberg, the whole crew).
And as Art already said, most respect to all the fighters who experienced the nightmare of D-Day at first hand.

Re: Respect to Mr Hanks on D Day
May they rest in peace - they made the ultimate sacrifice for us and for our freedom.
*personal note - look away now*
*stands on soap box with microphone*
Yeah, FREEDOM and CIVIL RIGHTS that are being annihilated by Western governments with great fervour and alacrity.
It's alarming how many civil liberties have been wiped off the map forever for British and US citizens since 9/11 and 7/7. Does anyone care? Apparently not. They're more concerned with soap operas, sh*t TV like so-called 'reality TV' shows. Ahhh the opiate of the masses. Soap operas, reality TV, fly on the wall documentaries, 'talk shows'..."Mr President/Prime Minister, whilst the masses are watching those puerile, meaningless 'shows' - they ain't asking questions"
*rant over*
Sorry guys. Back to the world of dreams...
