October Match Reports

BOVEY TRACEY 3RDS 11 DENBURY ATH RES 0

A gigantic win as we continue to gel as a team.
We only made 1 change from our last game with Armstrong coming back in for Isah.
We were ordered by manager John Lilley to keep a high tempo and i thought we achieved this.
We got an early goal when Daren Morgan beat a defender before crossing from the byline where big Dave Steer was waiting to score from close range.
Kev Moyle was also a dominant force for us in midfield and he was setting up numerous attacks, unfortunetly for us we had a 20 minute period in play where our final ball wasn't good enough and i would include myself in that.

Denbury looked decent with the ball over the top and a young quick lad called Alex was giving us a few problems, also Neil Castree was showing good intelligent hold up play up top for Denbury.

But Denbury's problem seemed to be in midfield and our lads were a lot sharper to the ball. Darren Morgan then helped himself to a well taken goal to make it 2 nil, The manager made a tactical switch by getting Vaughan and Armstrong to swap wings and imedietly Vaughan had an impact tearing down the right before crossing for Steer to head in his 2nd goal.
Despite Steer missing a chance of his hatrick it remained 3 nil at the break.

2nd half we began very sluggish as we normally do, Denbury had really up their workrate and pinned us back. On 50 minutes they won a freekick and it was whipped in where it was met with a header, it looked a certain goal until our skipper Gimson made a brilliant acrobatic clearance.
We then scored against the run of play on 52 minutes, Denbury took a corner which our keeper Exley caught and threw out to Moyle who found Morgan, he then slipped in Steer on the right who hit a blistering finish into the top corner from 18 yards. A great team move.
Just a few moments later and Gimson headed in the 5th from a right wing freekick. Giving Smith (who had gone in goal at halftime) no chance.

Denbury were fading now and Bovey had the luxury of taking off Moyle and replacing him with Shaun Douglas. About 1 minute later and despite being told to be a 'holding' midfielder Douglas popped up in the box for a typical piece of cool finishing and made it 6. Goals flowed frequently now and Steve Vaughan looking much happier on the right then bagged 2 himself, 1 from a Danny Cornish pass and 1 from a Morgan pass. Another sub, Isah came on for Vaughan who had a great game and soon after he to scored from close range on a tight angle.
Forgive me if i get some of the scorers the wrong way round but there was quite a lot to take in!
Anyway Morgan grabbed his 2nd, then Josh Armstrong scored his 1st goal in senior football with a composed finish cutting in from the left, the same player was also unlucky to hit a post.
Should mention that at 6 or 7 down Denbury did have a goal disallowed for offside. Castree was the unlucky man to be given off after the young striker who was offside went for the same ball as him.
Obviously we are happy at the win but remain with our feet on the ground as some stern tests lie ahead.
Thanks to Denbury for not giving up and the strikers certainly kept us on our toes.

BOVEY TRACEY 3RDS 6 PAIGNTON VILLA RES 0

Bovey's cracking run of form continued with this demolition over promotion hopefuls Paignton Villa reserves, Last time out it was striker Steer that got a hatrick but this time his partner Darren Morgan stole the match ball with his own triple.

This was a game which Bovey dominated in full from virtually the 1st kick until the last, Despite having some higher league players to pick Bovey decided to start just 1, Simon Baxter replacing player/manager Cooney. In midfield a tough decision was made to drop 39 year old Kevin Moyle who had been superb in the last 2 games, this due to the fact that 16 year old midfielder Ben Thorne was back after 2 months out with injury.

With all Bovey's possesion and neat build up play a goal looked iminent from the outset, and Morgan was unlucky to fire wide, while the Villa keeper made 2 good saves from Vaughan and Thorne. While Steer miskicked in front of goal.
Finally a goal arrived when Morgan burst down the flank on a pass from Armstrong and finished extremly well past the Villa keeper.

Paignton were putting up so little attempt we began going through the motions for a while, After the lull we picked up the tempo and left back Cowell picked up a pass out wide on the left and fired in a brilliant shot on an ecute angle right into the top onion bag.
5 minutes after a great team move saw Thorne and Morgan combine with Thorne eventually running through on Morgan's lovely pass to finish with a calm low well placed shot. 3nil

The 2nd half we told the lads to continue with the pace and to their credit they did. We did miss a couple sitters and Morgas could have had his hatrick a lot sooner.
On 59 minutes we got the 4th after another great team move, i think it was Vaughan who crossed low for Steer to score from close range.

We quickly sent on Moyle for young Perring and moved Cornish to rightback. Bovey continued the onslaught and finally Morgan grabbed his 2nd.
There was then an unsavoury moment when a frustrated Villa player went through Cornish, The player was sent and Cornish had to be replaced by Isah and Armstrong slotted in at rightback.
On 85 minutes Villa had their 1st effort on goal and stand in keeper Pascoe made a good low save from a 20 yarded shot.
But a minute from time Morgan grabbed his deserved trick when sub Blackmore flicked on a cross field pass and Morgs ran on to finish with a composed right foot effort past the Villa keeper who was probably Villa's best player today.
