DELILAH DEVLIN INTERVIEWS BEST-SELLING, WORLD TRAVELLING SYLVIA DAY
Sylvia day is an author I can proudly say is also a friend of mine. A year after she wrote her first book, she sold it. And then several more. This is a talented woman who knows how to do things right.
This is an interview she recently did with Delilah Devlin, another writing buddy of her. I hope you enjoy it.
D.D.: Syl, while trying to dream up questions for the interview, I perused Amazon and took a look at your recent releases. I have to admit to being envious over the loyalty of your fans. They really won't let...a Day pass them by. Based on their raves for A PASSION FOR HIM, I've ordered it, but in the meantime, can you tell me a little about the story so I can build my anticipation?
S.D.: Thank you for ordering it! ((hugs)) I hope you enjoy it! (my awesome editor, Kate Duffy, came up with that tagline for me, BTW. I thought it was cute, so I adopted it. *g*)
APFH is the story of Colin and Amelia, two characters who appeared in a previous book of mine, PASSION FOR THE GAME. In PFTG, they were still teenagers, too young to write a romance about. So APFH picks up six years later. It's a reunited/first love story, which is what made me love it. I have a soft spot for those premises. 
D.D.: What inspired this series that began with ASK FOR IT and PASSION FOR THE GAME? Did you have an underlying theme in mind when you began?
S.D.: The Georgian Series wasn't conceived as a series. But fans enjoyed so many of the secondary characters (as did I) that it became necessary to see them again and make sure they were happy, too.
D.D.: Okay, here's the fluff question. Did you have any celebrities/actors in mind when you created the characters in A PASSION FOR HIM?
S.D.: Kate Beckinsale is Amelia and Eddie Cibrian is Colin.
D.D.: I know you've had a lot of excitement in your writing life lately, mainly your recent deal for a paranormal series with TOR with you writing as SJ Day. Can you tell the readers why you decided to take this step away from romance?
S.D.: The romance genre has certain rules and a general format to follow — basically, the entire purpose of the story from beginning to end is to bring two people together. I wanted to write a story where the romance wasn't the focus of the book, which would enable me to expand plotlines a bit more. It also allowed me to focus on characterization that wasn't a setup for a romantic relationship, i.e character flaws could be unattractive and unresolved. I love writing romance and I'm predominantly a romance reader, but creatively, I had some other roads I wanted to take. I took on a pseudonym so that my readers would know that the Marked series was a departure from my romance novels. I'm still writing the same types of characters I'm known for — strong women and sexy alpha men, and the sex (when it happens) is still hot. But Eve has bigger issues in her life at the moment than worrying about trying to make a relationship work. For more information on t he Marked series, please visit www.SJDay.net.
