Venting post!
Just received the RWA Alert in my email regarding the minutes at the board meeting. Something grabbed my attention. They renamed the Lifetime Achievement Award to the RWA Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award.
What?
So, you get this awesome award after all your years of hard work and dedication - an award that should focus on YOU and your achievements - and yet it has another writers name plastered on it. It screams at me, "Hey, you're awesome, but not as awesome as Nora Roberts!"
Is it just me? I think this award should focus on the individual it is given to. I'm sure other organizations do such things, like the Joe Montana quarterback award (I made that up lol), but our industry is creative and unique.
:/ What do you all think? Am I just in a pissy mood? lol

No, I agree. Nothing against la Nora, but the award should be about the person it's given to. I feel the same way about college football bowl games though. I miss the Orange Bowl - why do we have to have the Sunkist/Fedex/Budweiser/GM Orange Bowl? You forget why they're there in the first place.

I've gotta say I don't care whose name is on an achievement award if I'm winning it. I haven't looked on RWA's site, so I don't know the criteria, but it could be that Nora is sponoring the award or that she's involved in picking the winner. Don't know.

I wonder if there is enough of an outcry if they will change it back? I was so shocked when I read the news I couldn't help but wonder who else was surprised by it, and if anyone is going to crab about it.

Yes, I was also surprised by this, but it didn't bother me much. Actually, I'd feel honored if I won a Nora Roberts Award, know what I mean? I feel that it puts you in her status catagory.
But, I understand what you are saying, Dawn. It's probably all about the $$$, or either to get more attention to RWA. Who knows. But, heck I'll take it if you don't want it....hehe...
