We're sad to say that due to schedules and work loads we've decided to close The Realm. However, if you would like an awesome community of writers to chat with and get to know check out the Romane Divas at www.romancedivas.com. They have tons to offer and a huge group of amazing writers! We will be moving some of the information we've put on the forum to our MySpace page, so if you want to keep up with us, check out our blog there. We'll be blogging there in addition to our personal blogs from now on. Thanks for hanging out with us. We hope to see you on the Web!

What do you get out of writers conferences??

Just curious.
If you go to writers conferences, what do you get out of it?

My first RWA conf. I attended last year in Dallas was a great experience. I loved meeting all my on-line writing friends, and I got to attend some great classes too. I got to stand in line for my favorite authors to sign books, and we got tons of free books and gadgets. I really enjoyed hearing everyone's stories on getting published or on the road to get pubbed.

Sadly, I won't make the RWA 2008 conference, but I am attending a writers bootcamp in New Orleans. It's called Pen To Press Retreat, look it up if interested.

So what are you opinions of conferences? Give us some good and bad experiences....

I did NOT want to leave that conference. It was so much fun. That's what I like about this business. It's hard work, and so much fun. Autographed books...fellow writers...SO much fun.

Remember the first day we were there - Nora was sitting at the bar two stools down! Where else can you get that? An unknown writer such as myself, rubbing elbows with an icon like Nora? She's such an icon, you don't even need to say her last name, even to people who don't read romance.

I love the workshops...the luncheon's...the speakers...the awards ceremony. I loved everything about it. Actor's can't do this. Sports players can't do this...but we have direct access to our icon's, and they are willing to help us. How cool is that??? THAT'S what I love about conferences. The successful willing to help those of us who aren't there yet. I love that.

You forgot the part where we got to chat it up with agents and editors. I was lucky enough to sneak into a book signing early to help the publishers set i tall up for their authors. A great way to rub elbows with some people.

I'd love to go to a conference sometime, but haven't been able to make one yet. I'm hoping this year will be the year, but it'll probably be a chapter conference, since SF is too far for me.

San Franis a ways away, but like I told my hubby, it isn't an option for me to mis it. Even if it means I have to work like a slave to pay for it, it's well worth it to me. I'm eager to see who I get an appointment with this year.
