What do you do to help a fellow writer...
...when they're blocked? I have a friend who hasn't been writing very many pages, and it's upsetting her. I tried my best to motivate her, but I felt inadequate. I'm the type of person that's moved by others accomplishments and goals. I'm easily motivated - just tell me I can't do it and I'll do it. lol
Do you have any words of wisdom for those who are missing the muse?

Re: What do you do to help a fellow writer...
I think it was Joseph Finder who said in his interview with us that the muse doesn't exist. If he's blocked or can't figure out what happens next in the story then he needs to go back and figure out where he went wrong.
If it's a stall on how to start a new story, just make something up. Write something, anything, even if it's complete garbage. You may end up throwing it out, but it may also end up being the best thing you've done in a long time.
If you have a general idea but don't know what to do with it, just ask yourself what are 20 things that could happen if...
And always ask why.
Okay, so I guess what I'm sayin is that no matter who you are you can't wait for the muse to find you. You have to move on whether you're motivated or not. To do anything less, especially to stop or make excuses, is to lessen the importance of why you started writing in the first place.
At least that's my opinion.

Thanks guys. :o) My friend and I are going to start a Fast Draft Monday. I'm already officially on one, but I'm going to hold myself accountable to her as well. I'm hoping this is what she needs to get the words flowing.

I find it easier to help others with the block than to help myself.
I think my block is because the story is just going the right way or because I detached myself, I think if you have a synopsis, go read it again....it might help....

I agree with Dawn. I need to work through it myself. I find that taking a break and doing something completely different - for me it's cleaning and running/hiking - gets the cobwebs out of my head and helps me concentrate.

Sometimes working it out on your own is the only way, but it's great to know there are people you can call on if you need help.
LOL, I cleaned house today trying to get cobwebs out of my brain. When I sat back down to work, I was in a better frame of mind.

My house is clean today - yahoo! Unfortunately, instead of spending all those goods vibes in writing, I'm doing the other job - pays the bills, but not as much fun.
