General Comments
Wow. So much to say. I will post more later, but I have a few minutes before the wife and I head out to dinner. The best moment for me was just before the final battle. I couldn't believe how many red players were at the CP. We easily still had 175-200 players. Normally the force at the end of the game is just over half. More importantly was the fact they were FIRED UP and ready to go. Seeing the force sprint to pick up the fuel cans made me proud to be part of this. The battle for the fuel dump was pretty intense, but we had the numbers.
I'm not the best guy with names (there is only so much room for junk in by brain and I may need to recite the theme from Gilligan's Island someday), but I wish I could thank everyone personally. SOLID, SOLID PLAY!!! Off to dinner where I will retell the days events to my better half over and over. I'm not sure why she puts up with me...

Re: General Comments
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone that attended (all except the guy that shot me in the neck 5 minutes into the game inside the castle). My son and I have been coming to the OA scenarios since the very beginning. Jim's comments about the improved play over the last two years are right on the mark. It is great to have players come over to me in a battle that has ground to a halt, with both sides well bunkered, suggesting taking a group to flank one of the sides. It shows how well they understand the battlespace and what is needed to reshape it. Two of my commanders had never played a scenario at OA, yet they played smart and showed outstanding leadership. I encourage more of you to volunteer for leadership positions, it will help you grow into a better player.
I would also like to commend the OA staff for another exceptional job!! Take a minute to think about what it takes to control 500 guys and gals trying to shoot each other, keep it safe, keep it fair, and keep it fun. OA has this down to a science. I only heard one complaint all day. It was funny the person complaining to me thought the ref did something wrong, when it was actually me that read the mission wrong and told them to do the wrong thing. It is hard in the "fog of war" to have everything go exactly as planned. I can assure you that every single ref is out there doing the best they can to ensure everything remains fair, safe and fun. I think they do a great job.
This is the first time I've had to ask my guys to back off an enemy HQ although I have been pinned in my HQ a number of times. I know it is hard to stop pushing forward during play, but good sportsmanship goes beyond calling yourself out when you are hit. It can also mean giving the other guy a fighting chance to get out of their HQ, get a foothold, and make a press from there. I can assure you it is no fun being jammed up at your CP with nowhere to go. When I asked you guys to give 'em some room, everyone moved back, no questions asked. Great sportsmanship! Let's try to make that a regular practice at the OA scenarios and keep it fun for all.
It is also very cool to see so many players in costume. There was a time when I was one of the only ones dressed up like a freak, now I can see I'm going to have to improve my costumes just to keep up with you guys.
I had a great time and look forward to seeing you out on the field again.
Thanks again,
wayne

Re: General Comments
ya I love how the blue team always has to walk 10 minutes just to get air.
O Dont worry just cause half the blue team is off getting air, o ya that doesent effect the battles at all could we please for the love of the game get an air compressor near the blue spawn seriously its just not right that we have to walk a bloody mile just so we can shoot.
other than that OA has always been good.

Re: General Comments
I can sympathize with your point since I played that side of the field in the last two scenarios. However, I wouldn't try to pin that on the loss for Blue at Stalingrad. Consider that Red won Yellow Scorpion from the same side while being outnumbered.
So, while it would be nice not to have to walk so far, I don't think it affects the outcome of the games directly.

Re: General Comments
The more expierienced or regular players know that the air fills are closer to red. So that also gives red the closer air fills and the more expierienced players. Its almost a domino effect.
Whoever wins I still say its not right that one team has to walk so far to get air it may not effect the entire game
but lets run a hypothetical scenario.
Both teams have about even people with about even skills.
One team mounts a massive offencive to tries to hold capture/hold something like the castle.
After about 10minutes people are going to start running out of air/co2
now one team has to walk much further and takes twice as long to get back to the battle.
One team gets back apx. 5minutes before the others do giving them time to push back the other team.
Who would have a huge advantage?

Re: General Comments
Actually I believe you mean Blue - since that is the usual CP near the trailers. And I think by what happened last game that it is not the geographic location on the field, but the motivation of players and the leadership on the field that makes a real difference.
A year ago, there were three or four straight games where the Red (Rt. 50) side was blowing away the Blue side, so everyone said that was the strong side - it just so happens the recently, the other side has been stronger.
It all depends on the players - the more organized and motivated they are, the better that side will play - regardless of the side they are on.

Re: General Comments
o i have no doubt that more motivated players and better commanders make the bigger difference. The air fills can and do effect the game a little bit though. Theres no denying that it does effect teh game a little in the long run throughout the day especially if you unload alot of paint or your gun is an airhog.

Re: General Comments
I would buy that hypothetical if it weren't disproved last weekend. Red played from the North corner, furthest from the air, with less players and still won. I don't think we were lucky and happened to have all of our people available whenever Blue pushed in. In fact, we gave a lot of ground throughout the day. What won that game (as any game) was mission points.
I would just concentrate on the convenience factor. It remains true that it sucks having to walk that far. Saying it actually affects the outcome of the games doesn't hold water.
