Along with the pictures... can OA also do videos?
It would be awesome if OA also take short video clips throughout the day. If you need a host for the videos.. google videos and youtube.com is an excellent place to post.
Not to mention, it’s a great publicity. Just a thought..

Re: Along with the pictures... can OA also do videos?
Paintball in the woods is not a very easy thing to video, you can film for 6 hours and get 20 minutes of interesting footage.
Having a video of people walking past shooting at stuff that cannot be seen is not very interesting. Believe me I have about 200 hours of paintball film I have taken and ended up with little to show for it, my friends can watch it and have a great laugh but you watching my friends play paintball is not very interesting for you.
The filming is the easy part that only takes one day, the editing can take months (or in my case never happens). The hours required to get a good looking video is prohibitive when you consider that there is almost no return on making the product.
For example, say I make a video (it has happened before) I film all day then spend another 60 hours editing that video. Then sell 30 final product DVD's to paying customers, then those paying customers copy them and give them to their friends (because its so easy nowadays). Now for 70 hours work I have got maybe $300 in my pocket and thats if its all done by one person at an amateur level.
Get a professional in and have to pay several thousand dollars just for the filming.......
Here is a link to a youtube video featuring the Outdoor Adventures green tank at an away game. The view is from the top of the turret.

Re: Along with the pictures... can OA also do videos?
hmmmm.. you have a point...
However, if I may make a suggestion. Let's not worried about the whole day and just concentrate on some of the mission like, capturing the castle in the first 30 minutes of the game in BoB III.
Maybe it's just me, but I would love to see the first mission replay “the siege on the castle”
I say, forget editing it, since (like you said) some people might "share" video tapes. That’s waste of your hard work. Just 3-4 minutes clips of the siege from the outside or the inside.
P.S. I checked out the video.. it’s great!!

Re: Along with the pictures... can OA also do videos?
Heh heh heh...you can hear the AFT with the loudener just before you switch to the Minion...
The catch is you can't forget editing it. That single 3 minute clip comes from footage taken over the course of about an hour during the final battle. Without the witty commentary, slow motion, and rewinds, it would be even shorter. He had to watch, pick the good moments, piece it together, and add the text and effects, and that's from when he had a good position and knew where the action was going to be.
Think of watching a picture of one side of the castle, even for only 3 or 4 minutes, where all you see is a few splats appear, and maybe a guy or two might run into view. It would get old before it was over if you didn't cherry pick the good moments during editing.

Re: Along with the pictures... can OA also do videos?
Shooting a video like this is a bit hard. This kind of filming falls is best thought of as imbedded combat journalist, with acceptations like going over to the other army and film without being shot dead for one. Even imbedded journalists have a lot of stock footage. The big trick is knowing where to be and where to shoot. MOST of all how to make that shot interesting so as not to make it look like some guy 20-30 ft away shooting a boring panning shot. The best thing is to find yourself a group of players that really stick together and are aggressive enough as to not just sit in one spot for ever(unless its a castle defense). The filmier has to be close with action. If a spot is dead then move on. No action means wasted film and time. This is why to get a good video you cannot be playing the game due to the fact that you need free movement. If you really want good shots you have to go get them. So being able to freely move and not having to worry about being a main target is a big plus, though getting hit even as a noncombatant is going to happen. I’ve found that the best way to learn how to get interesting shots and angles is to Study actual footage of combat journalist. Heck even watching movies like Black Hawk Down and Saving Private Ryan are good study’s on how to set up a shot. The difference with live paint ball is that it happens in real time. That makes it hard to set up that shot.
Just some possible helpful tips that I’ve learned, but I do agree it is indeed hard to do, especially if the people know you’re shooting and want to look like heroes and do stupid stuff. Arrrrg
A tip to those being filmed: Ignore the camera. Don’t worry if we like you or you don’t piss us off, we won’t make you look stupid

more footage more editing time, so far I have figured an average of 1hour editing work equals 1 minute of watchable video

Not to mention the cost of multiple people with multiple cameras.

Re: Along with the pictures... can OA also do videos?
The only video you are likely to see is amateur stuff put up by players that were there (like me) .The chance of getting an 'official' video is very slim as it is so cost prohibitive.
I despise editing videos it takes so long to do, putting up unedited film is pointless as it is boring to watch. Even basic chop editing for the interesting parts is dull to watch and also embarrassing for the editor to post.
I make my videos for the enjoyment of others and it takes up allot of my time to make them thats why there are not many of them. I have almost 200Gb of film from OA games over the last 11 months roughly that is about 16 hours of video. Of that 16 hours less than 2 hours is really that interesting enough to watch, out of all that footage the chance that I walked past you at some point is very minimal at best.

Jincay,
All of us who have seen your videos really appreciate all the time you spend. IMO you do a great job. Thanks for all your hard work.
After I read what I wrote, I really sound like a suck-up don't I. I swear, I am not trying to get in a video. I swear.
