Chrono at RotS

When I was getting chronoed at Return of the Sith, it took forever. As you know, there were two refs chronoing the players. The ref on the left however, had a player whose gun broke, and rather than making the player step to the side and fix it so other players could get chronoed, the ref stood there with the player so he could help fix the gun. It took about 20 minutes, and during this time, the ref on the right had a smiliar problem, but luckily it only took about 5 minutes to correct the problem. I didn't think it was fair for the ref to hold up the whole line for just one player while the rest of the line had to sit and wait. Not trying to complain, but is there any way this problem could be addressed so as to keep things running smoothly and on time at Operation Ocean Tiger?

The same stuff happened at Crimson Dawn...It was very annoying. I mean fire your shots and get out of the way. It wasn't just me but others in line were getting pissed. Everyone was so busy I didn't know to whose attention I should of brought it up to. Seriously, you need a better system or you need to instruct the refs on what needs to be done.

As usual, I can't see everything. If you ever have a significant problem such as this, please bring it to my attention or Lee. If we're not handy, go to the regitration trailer. They have a radio to contact us. We use 5 chronos at a game. This is probably more than anywhere else for a game of this size. However, it sounds like we do need to establish a procedure for handling people with problems to avoid a bottle neck. Thanks for bringing it up so I can rectify it!

Would it be a good idea to maybe setup all 5 chronos in the same area early in the morning when the largest chrono rush is happening?

Also would it be a good idea to maybe set them up in the empty/unused hyperpipe field or somewhere else. This would give people a chance to fire their markers BEFORE stepping upto the chrono to at least make sure they are firing properly.

Myabe setup 5 barrels with the chronos on them and that way if there is a snag in any one line the others could handle the backup.

I think educating the refs there to only chrono and not help with repairs is a good idea also. In alot of cases I see players who don't even know HOW TO adjust their own markers but there is not much the field can do about that.

IMO, the problem here isn't necessarily that OA doesn't have enough chronos (those things are expensive!), or that the refs chronoing don't know what they're doing, or even that the players in line don't know what they're doing...it's often that everyone waits until the last minute to chrono. I have been guilty of this myself at nearly every scenario I have ever attended, and I payed for it every time.

Last weekend, for the first time, I chronographed before I even got dressed for ROTS. I had paint, assembled my marker, grabbed my mask and headed out to the chrono at about 8:00. There were all of 3 people in line, and I was out of there in a flash.

The later you go, the longer it takes. Even if everyone went when I did, there was still plenty of time for everyone to take a little longer to make sure they were shooting safe. And that's the most important thing, IMO.

There was also a chrono at the entrance to the Red CP area (at the parking lot entrance) - which I don't think many people knew about. If they had, it might have cut down on the wait.

Using a speedball field could speed things along, 5 chronos in one point with the 3 refs coould watch all five. Keeping the 5 chronos spread apart and having a ref control the players going into each chrono would prevent a mob mentallity developing.

Wow, I expected to be seriously flamed here...I'm glad that you all agree with me, it was something that I noticed and it irked me a tad, so I figured maybe Jim could take care of it, thanks Jim emoticon

No reason to flame you, it is a good thing to make suggestions.

I have seen it at just about EVERY scenarion (1 day or 24 hour) game I have ever been to. People waiting until the last minute to chrono and the line being 2 miles long.

What James said is the best thing to do. Once you get to the field, before you setup anything else, get your air and paint and chrono your marker. Theoretically that should be all you need to hit the field. Everything else (pads/vests/pods/radios/...) is just gravy on top that makes play easier.

OA and company are always looking for ways to make things better for us the players so any and all suggestions (within reason) are usually taken into consideration.
