Re: building tank
I believe that if you use a real vehicle, it needs to be registered & have insurance - I would definitely check with the DMV.

Re: building tank
I would hold off on buying any vehicles. I seem to remember hearing/reading something not too long ago about rules prohibiting the use of any tank built on a vehicle that would need to be registered (i.e. vehicles that can be driven on the street).
I think there was some sort of grandfather clause allowing tanks built on road vehicle frames prior to a certain date to still be used.
In addition to this, I think OA has their own tank policies and may restrict the use of outside tanks at their events.
I would wait for an answer here from one of the OA staff or PM Cooter about it before buying anything.

Re: building tank
I know OA and a lot of other fields do not like/allow vehicle based paintball tanks. They are too heavy and too risky. If a player were run over by a car, van, pick-up they would get seriously hurt. Not to mention imagine getting a vehicle stuck out on the field and trying to get a tow truck out there to pull it out.
You would also be required to carry insurance on the tank. Trying to get insurance on a vehicle that is not being used for the purpose it was designed for can be very expensive making it cost prohibitive. Try telling an insurance company you are taking a vehicle out to a wooded field to chase people around and shoot paintballs at them and launch nerf footballs. You can get it on a game by game basis but it would still run you a couple hundred dollars per game.
Nemesis had a 4x4 Jeep one of the members owned and we were going to build off of but it with the cost of insurance, most field not allowing vehicle based tanks and other restrictions we were going to face we thought better.

Re: building tank
You have a wide range of options for vehicles that can be used - all the way up from golf carts (though with the extra weight, it probably won't travel very far or fast) to 6x6 Gators. That is what OA used to build their tanks & they work great. I believe you can pick them up for between $1500 - 3000.00 depending on type (diesel or electric) and age.

Re: building tank
I saw that in the parking lot. I didn't notice that it had gotten off the trailer. They had it on the field? I only ever saw the OA tank.
