Re: Contests Feedback

Just came back from the Magoo Charity Classic. Great weekend. Was run for the first time by a young guy called Mitch Fraser. Did a great job too. Started on time. Finished on time. Professional Judges. Good move. Other comps should take note. Saturday night get-together was okay. I think the Auction was a bit lame this year. Maybe time to think about something different. But overall, a great contest. 5-Star Rating. emoticon

Re: Contests Feedback

Have been watching the Malfunction on webcast. Looking at the Heat Draws prompted me to think where are all these NSW Entrants when our Regional and State Titles are on. I've been a member of the NTB / NLA for about 6 years and I have never seen about half the NSW surfer's names at any NLA events. We've got a unique organisation in NSW. An Association for Longboarders run by Longboarders. If you join the NLA you don't have to pay Surfing NSW or Surfing Australia fees. Stop trying to be a bunch of independant Miki Dora wanna-be's. Join something. Become part of a group representing YOUR sport.

Re: Contests Feedback

Apparently the Aussie Old Mal Titles are on next month in Crescent Head. Did anyone know about them? Has anyone been invited or seen an Entry Form? I was really hoping that with a "changing of the guard" in the contests scene at Crescent, that info would flow more freely. I guess not. If someone has an Entry Form for the Old Mal, could they email a copy to this website so I can put it on the site to let all surfers know it's on, not just an elite few.

Re: Contests Feedback

Well I have just come back from The Mal Muster up at Bonny Hills.
Overall a good comp as usual , but a head judge & some integrity seamed to be lacking.
In the U/14's final, second final of the day I witnessed some of the most disgraceful sportmanship from a couple of local boys towards a boy from Sydney, who after surfing together in the heat the day before , must have felt threatened & therefore the need to go out there with evil intentions.
With the surf at a solid 5-6ft, maybe even a bit bigger, they continually paddled underneath & on 3 separate occassions, spun their boards as this young kid was going to take off, forcing him to abort otherwise he would have run into them. He left the water in tears!
Now given that the judges were in the Tower you would think they would have spotted this, but it seamed to be all about the locals, even to the point of them allowing one local to ride a 7'6" board in the final..... what, i thought this was longboarding. No, its about shortboarders entering longboard comps & bringing their attitudes with them.
The results at the presentation obviously were not affected by this interference & lack of sportsmanship. A father of another boy competing in the final made a complaint re the dirty tactics as well as the short board - which can bee seen in the photos he took of the competitors together, but it all fell on deaf ears.
Given that they are due to host their 20th anniversary event next year I think they have a think about the way its run, as I was disgusted, as was a few of the other onlookers , at what the"locals" were allowed to get away with.

Hi Tiptime. Sounded bloody disgusting, but bloody typical of the locals up there.emoticon Without using any names, I've sent your complaint onto the Contest Organiser ( I simply said that I received an anonymous posting on the website). It'll be interesting to see if I get a reply. Trust you get to go to some "good" comps iin the future. emoticon
