Contests Feedback
Malfunction 2007 @ the Superbank
Highlights
- Good consistant swell
Lowlights
- Too crowded to surf to full potential without the possibility of running someone down!
- Agression in the water.
- Inconsistant judging, one day it is between 2 bouys the next the whole break.
- The announcer calling Keiren Taylor an 'idiot' for not coming straight in after his final - total disrespect.
- The PA system, could only be understood within a 10m radius of the speakers.
Standouts
- Josh Constable in the SUP division.
- The style and elegance of Monique Keane.
Improvements for next year
- Relocate to another break or get exclusive rights to the bay.
- An extra set of competitor rashy's.

Re: Contests Feedback
That contest really sucks. Free-surfers all over the place - especially those Japs - no speak Ingrish, solly. Tell'em to f-off and you can bet they'll know exactly what to say back to you. If you want to run a contest at Superwank - sorry, I mean Superbank, then you need two dirty big Islanders out on Jet Skis. One at either end of the contest area. Their job would be to kick the s... out of any free surfer who gets in the area. I saw a report that Nat Young got run over by some ****head of afree surfer during his heat. How do the shortboarding contests keep the free surfers out of the area - or do they?

Re: Contests Feedback
My son & I just attended our first big contest (Crescent Head) on the weekend & what a great time we had.
Pitty the point wasn't going off but I guess it allowed free surfers to frequent it more than would normally be the case at that comp.
The organisation was great, the people were fantastic, the night activities were well run & all in all my family had a blast. Congrats to the organisers, as with 402 competitors it must take some work to make it run as smoothly as it seamed to me.
I have already booked for next year & am looking forward to it.
Only downside was that the preso didn't end until 5.30pm sunday , which made for a nightmare drive home back to Sydney.
Looking forward to our next comp at Bonny Hills in August, which I Beieve is another well run event from all reports.

Re: Contests Feedback
Regards Crescent Head. Stopped going to that contest quite a few years ago. Got sick of the "I am" attitude of the Contest Dictator (Oops, I mean Contest Director - or do I?) Don't dare question the results or want to look at the score sheets to see how you fared. My question is, with around 400 participants at, I guess, around $40 each, who gets the $16000 +? Anyone ever audited the books of this contest? Anyone ever been game enough to ask the CD to look at the books. Great location (mid-week). Used to be, and probably still is, a great stoke to get together. Contest Director = bad vibes.

Well maybe you were more competitive than I & cared more about where you finished. We go for fun & if we manage to get through a round or 2 well super , if not , enjoy the rest of the weekend, which is afterall, what we go for. To meet new people, make new friends & have fun surfing.
In regards to the money, I for one know that they have to pay cost price for some of the boards ( there were 12 from memory this year) that they give away, as well as trophies , which i am sure are not donated. I don't think they walk away with too much money in their pockets.
Crescent Head = Good time for me & my boy( not concerned about the political crap.)

Re: Contests Feedback
I think that Crescent used to be a Charity event. Not sure if it is anymore. This website never seems to receive any details about this particular contest (Entry Forms, Dates, etc.) other than feedback from people who use these forums. With contests such as Crescent and the like, most of the costs are usually covered by sponsorships, so hopefully there's a fair bit left over for the nominated charities.

Re: Contests Feedback
I didn't really care where I finished in the contest. In fact I enter a helluva lot of contests and usually get eliminated in the first rounds. I too go for the "stoke", but I can't abide by a contest run by some bombastic "I am the centre of the Universe" type. This contest has grown big; too big for just one person to control. Good point about the sponsors too. I forgot about their monetary input. Hmmm, interesting.

Re: Contests Feedback
This is just a general reminder to all who use these Message Boards. Whilst you all have an opinion, and you all have a right to express that opinion, especially on these Message Boards, afterall, that's what they're here for, I must remind you that abusive language, slagging people off, and generally getting way off the topic/s at hand will result in your post being removed. If you've got a gripe with someone, then either keep it to yourself, or if you must air it, use your real name (be a man / woman about it). If you have an opinion on stand-up paddle boards, express it. Don't like a particular contest, say so. But do it articulately, and with fore-thought. Engage your brain before putting your mouth (or typing fingers) into motion. These boards can be great fun and a medium to express / exchange ideas. Keep 'em cool so we cam all enjoy them. Cheers from the Moderator.
