we need some lively debate!
i think abortion is wasteful but not the equivalent of murder. And as such should ultimately be a personal decision of the mother and or father.
any other views?

Re: we need some lively debate!
One of the problems that living creatures face is too many individuals for the space provided.
When there is crowding there are going to be fights. It is simply a fact of life.
The amish community are finding another drawback. They are being inbred so much that they are smaller in size then other cultures. That in itself may not be so important but there is also a problem with birth defects.

Re: we need some lively debate!
Let's discuss this one.
What make some people think that the world revolves around them? Greed, excess, privilege, I don't get it.
There's plenty of it on Wall Street, the business world, and politics, but here's one close to the rest of us.
So, an older (than me) couple comes into the restaurant this morning for breakfast. She’s looking pretty damn good for a woman of advanced years. You can tell that she spends a lot of time doing herself up and getting dressed for breakfast at the local diner. The husband looks like a typical older gentleman from this neck of the woods and dressed in jeans and flannel shirt.
They are headed towards their regular table for four. Seeing that it was taken, the husband pulls out a chair at a nearby table for two. Well, the Mrs. has a disgusted look on her face as if she’s not about to sit at no stinkin’ table for two, so she heads off to a table for six. She pulls out a chair at the end and sets herself down. Her husband sits diagonally across from her on the other side. Either he’s thinking “what the hell, we have this much room, might as well take advantage of it” or “she wants excess, I’ll show her excess” or maybe he’s thinking both. It almost looks like they are not even dining together.
I would like to think that she has learned something from this morning out on the town but I suspect that as soon as they get in the car to go home, she will just chew her husband out for embarrassing her.
Sometimes, watching people pays off. I live for these moments.

Re: we need some lively debate!
I absolutely hate people who throw their weight around or who seem to think that their money either buys them class or special privileges.
I really respect people who have lots of money but who can get down with the ordinary folk and help and be 'one of the people' without being condescending.
This is why I love Africa. We have some divas among the newly rich here but mostly everybody just uses everybody's first name and we don't get hung up on special privilege.
On Thursday at this lunch that i got all tarted up for, I chatted to a woman who is the head of her department at the company (my husband's ex-employer). She asked for my email address and my Facebook page so she can be my 'friend' and so that she can personally attend to a problem we're having with how his pension is paid.
She promised that she would attend to it personally and by the time I left her table we were best friends.
I love that kind of attitude, just people being nice to other people.

She sounds like a nice lady, MO.
Skokey, what was the wife's reaction when her husband sat at the other side of the table?

Re: we need some lively debate!
I'm guessing this isn't their normal behavior during morning breakfast, since you saw it fit to say so. Do you think it's due to the fact that their regular table was taken, the fact that he sat on the other side of the table, or possibly for a different reason?
