In Memory of My Son
Breadcrumbs in the butter...
When I see a tall mountain; I think of you.
When I feel a breeze; I feel your kiss on my cheek.
When I see a hug; I vision our last.
When I see a baseball game; I see you antagonizing the batter.
When I play chess; I see my teacher, my son.
When I see a handicapped child; I remember your compassion.
When I look at my fingers; I remember counting yours.
But mostly...
When I see breadcrumbs in the butter; I think of you, I miss your crumbs dearly.
Love, Mom
I lost my youngest son Jan. 10th 1998. In a car crash. He had just turned 20 the November before.
He always left breadcrumbs in the butter and it use to aggravate me to no end, but now… breadcrumbs in the butter is a beautiful sight, and I love it.

Re: In Memory of My Son
That brought a tear to my eye, Winkks. It's funny how the things that aggrivate you most about someone are what you miss most once they are gone.
I go through that with missing Ron. My husband died Nov. 7, almost a year now. He fell 30' and was in NICU for 2 weeks before his injuries overcame him. He was 40 and we have a 14 year old son.
My boy and I used to get really annoyed with a lot of things, but Ron's intentionally bad singing and imitations were something else. His "Goofy" laugh and how he'd toss his head and say "What's up Petey?" ...to have that again..... He would never set or handle the alarm clock and would snap at me if it didn't go off right or I hit the off switch instead of the snooze bar. I hated that thing, but now I miss ticking his toc.
Nice poem. May you find peace and comfort in your memories...your crumbs.
blessings, Color

Re: In Memory of My Son
Thank you colori.
I’m sorry to see you have a great loss as well. Isn’t it odd though… we feel some sort of comfort when someone tells you they have lost a loved one;… the comfort is knowing without a doubt, that person knows exactly how you feel.
It’s a wound that requires no bandage, no stitches, and the pain is unbearable. In the beginning, if someone ran a knife down your back, you probably wouldn’t even feel it. But when someone knows how you feel by their own loss, it’s a comfort. The comfort of understanding.
God bless you too colori, :rose and thank you for sharing your loss with me;…your comfort of understanding.

Re: In Memory of My Son
You're welcome Winkks, and amen! "Lean not on our own understanding...." Leaning on Him and having faith is the only way through. Having someone to relate to sure helps, too. Your sis, Lori

Re: In Memory of My Son
Amen!! You’re so right! God is the healer, and having others to relate to does help.
If it wasn’t for the Lord, I wouldn’t be here for him to make a difference in my life.
Just think…If we leaned to our own understanding, and had the power to change the process of death and history, Stephen King would be the only one able to write the “outcome” of what we thought best. Whew!!! That won’t work, hehe.
So thank God the power we do have, (through him), is to love, accepting things we cannot change, faith in what we cannot see and hope for our heavenly home. God knows exactly what we need, aint he good!
God bless and a big old (((((HUG)))))
