Polls

You can add a poll to a new topic which allows people to vote.

Creating A Poll
To add a poll to a topic in the write a topic window at the bottom there is the option 'ttach a poll to this topic?'. Click 'Show poll options' and the poll options will appear

You will want to enter a question or whatever is the subject of the poll in the message area and then enter the options in each of the Poll Options boxes.

Poll Options
There are several different options that will affect the poll.

Only board members can vote? ~ Checking the box means only logged in registered members on the board can vote. Unchecking will allow guests to vote aswell.
Results viewable without vouching? ~ Whether the results of the poll are viewable without voting
Results viewable after vouching? ~ Whether the results of the poll are viewable after they have voted
Max selectable items? ~ How many options in the poll can be voted for
Allow blank votes (no selected options)? ~ Whether a vote can be made without selecting any.

posticon Using Smilies/Posticons

Smilies are tiny images such as emoticon or emoticon which can be used in posts. They are often called emoticons in that they show the mood/feeling.

Smilies
Smilies can be included in your post by clicking any of the smilies in the box on the right hand side under the heading 'Clickable Smilies'.

When clicked a code is entered into the message window. If you know the code you can type it. All codes will then be replaced by the smilie when the post is submitted.

You are not limited to the smilies that the board adminstrator has selected. You can find you own and then include them as you would for a normal image using this format:

Some places to get smilies are;
Planet Smilies
My Smilies
JM.G.Free Smileys
Click Smilies
Emoticons4U
Web Smilies

Posticons
They are the same as smilies, but only 1 smiley can be selected which will appear in a column in the topic list page and next to the topic title in posts.

Karma

Karma is a feature of Runboard that allows users to rate other users in a positive (praise) or negative way (smite).

The total karma received on a particular board is shown below a users name in their posts and the number of praises and smites received.

Praising
Praising a user is a positive thing and will increase the users karma total by +1.

To praise a user you need to click 'Applaud' which is in the last bottom line of the users post.

Smiting
Smiting a user is a negative thing and will decrease the users karma total by -1.

To smite a user you need to click 'Smite' which is in the bottom line of the users post.

Notes:
You cannot give yourself Karma
You can only give a user karma once a day. There are no restrictions on how many users you can give karma to.

Users with the top 20 highest Karma rating across the Runboard network are shown on Hall Of Honor

Frequently Asked Karma Questions:
1. Is there a way to find out who praised/smited me?
No, unless the user who praises/smites you tells you in a post that they have done so.
2. Whats the point of Karma?
There isnt one. Its purely a fun gimmick.

(Un) Subscribing To Topics

When you write a new topic to a board, you might want to be warned whenever someone else replies to it. This way, you don't have to check the topic often. The "Automatic post notification" feature allows you to do exactly that: "subscribe to a topic". Every time someone will reply to it, you will be sent an email with a link to access the topic directly. You will be only sent one email per topic, until you read it.

There will also be a link to unsubscribe from the topic, sent in the email.

The box reading "Get notifications when someone replies" must be checked to subscribe to the topic you're writing. It is automatically prechecked for you, by default.

Should you find the feature annoying, you can go in your Control Panel, click the "Miscellaneous settings" button, and uncheck the box reading "Pre-check the Notification box".

Frequently Asked Questions

These are some commonly asked questions on Runboard.

1. Can I attach a file to a topic/reply?
No, you cannot upload any files to runboard, whether that be images, or other files. You will have to find a third party host.

2. Can I resize an image in a post?
No, unfortunately the image size will be its default, so a large image may destort the forum appearance.

3. Can I use flash in a post?
No, this has been disabled for security issues. See here for details.
